Beulah International, a property developer, announced on August 15 that the design proposal submitted by UNStudio withCox Architecturehas been selected as the winning design for its latest project爱的奉献简谱 , Southbank by Beulah in the heart of Melbourne. The structure forms part of a new development on the city's Southbank, which is predicted to cost more than AU$2 billion (US$1.4 billion). Thehigher of the pair of buildingsis set to rise up to 360 meters好风长吟, which would make it Australia’s tallest building.
The two firms’ collaborative proposal for the design competition aims to establish a new destination for the Southbank area and Melbourne. The proposal is integrally organized by one “Big Detail”: a “Green Spine” of vertically networked platforms, terraces and verandas.
Beulah International Executive Director Adelene Teh said the winning project showed a bold, yet thoroughly considered approach to creating a context-driven landmark as an addition to the city’s skyline.
“In its details, the scheme displays a strong intent for well-considered public and private amenity, and at street level, the proposal displays qualities that will truly transform the public realm by eroding the hard edges prevalent in Southbank,” says Teh.
The building’s multifaceted spine is created by splitting open the structure at its core, thereby forming two separate high-rise structures.
A host of programs, including recreation, retail, offices, residential, hotel and exhibition spaces are slated for the vertically stepped public infrastructure – an infrastructure that is formed by indoor-outdoor spatial frames that embed nature, public space, and culture.
At ground level, the project aims to engage directly with Southbank Boulevard and the public realm of Melbourne’s CBD. From the public park at the top of the podium, foliage wraps upward around the two towers, where it culminates at the top of the residential tower in a botanical garden. Both the podium and the rooftop park will be reserved for public use.
The podium is projected to house a marketplace, retail and entertainment spaces, and a BMW experience center.
Other shortlisted teams that submitted proposals for the design competition included those led byBIG,OMA, MVRDV, MAD and Coop Himmelb(l)au.
